Benjamin (Benny) W. Williams
Benjamin Walter Williams was born August 6, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was one of five children born to the late Albert J. and Ida Mae Williams. He received his formal education in the Philadelphia Public Schools and was a graduate of Overbrook High School Class of 1942. An early marriage to the former Doris Lee was dissolved and in 1964, Benjamin was united in marriage to Ruth Browner Unthank. Through this union, he gained two sons, Maurice and Michael and they made their home in Mt. Airy. In 1985, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth. An avid bridge player, Ben served as past president of the Mt. Airy Bridge Club. He also found time to serve as a Boy Scout troop leader at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Throughout his life Benjamin joyfully volunteered his time and expertise in a variety of capacities to friends and family. He was often sought out for his wisdom and life experience and delighted in being asked for his opinion. Shortly after his 79th birthday, Benjamin experienced his Transition on August 22, 2002. His enthusiasm for life will be sorely missed by his companion of 12 years. Renee Berris; one brother, Albert; two sisters, Madeline Scipio and Marion Williams; stepsons, Maurice and Michael Unthank; sister-in-law, Helen Burt; nieces, Dr. Diana Parker and Barbara Hayman; grand- daughters, Nichole, Kellye and Alexandra Unthank; a host of other loving relatives and many special friends. Benjamin's zest for life and concern for others will remain a hallmark of a life well-lived. Submitted With Love, The Family |
